I saw the radiation oncologist today, who went over the radioactive iodine treatment with me. He told me things very similar to the link I posted way below, but the good news is we're going to try to do the treatment Aug. 4th. It entirely depends on my hormone levels, but he thinks my blood tests in two weeks will probably give us the green light. Let's hope so, because if I have to wait another week, I'll have to start it on the 11th...which is our anniversary. :P The not-so-good news is my cancer is a stage 3, so he has to give me a double dose of the radiation (200 millicuries, whatever that is). The other not-so-good news is that he gave me a 50/50 chance I'll have to do this treatment again in 6 months. But again, this is a heck of a lot easier than regular radiation treatments, so I will be thankful even if I have to do it twice. They will do a scan a week after I take the radioactive iodine pill to see if the cancer was killed, then I'll have the OK to come home.
On a lighter note, I had like 3 people in the hospital tell me how good my scar looked for being only 2 and 1/2 weeks old. :) One of them had a daughter that went to my Dr. when she needed her thyroid out and ended up having someone else do the procedure because he told her he could GUARANTEE her singing voice would not be lost. It's been 3 years and she still has a nice voice, but she also has a very nasty scar. Her mom said MY scar looks better than hers and my singing voice is almost back to what it used to be already. Not to be COMPLETELY sappy, but I really believe your prayers and love are a BIG reason for that! Love you all so much!!!

That's AWESOME that your scar is looking so good, and your voice is coming back well too! YEAH! And we'll keep praying that you'll have another miracle and you'll only have to do the R.I. treatment once!!! KNOCK ON WOOD! What are your plans for teaching!??!
Hmmmm, good question! If we're lucky and I do it the 4th, I'll have 3 weeks away from kids, which should be plenty of time for the radiation to wear off. I'm hoping I don't have to take any days off, but I have 18 saved up if I need them. Also, there's a catastrophic sick leave bank I'm eligible to tap into so I don't have to take leave w/o pay in CASE I have to do another dose in Feb. Thanks for the prayers, dear!!!
I can't even tell you how glad I am that you are doing so well... we would all shrivel up and die without your voice. You're awesome Lizzy. We love you and are praying for you!!!

Thanks so much, Wendy and Shannon. I just love you both! And don't worry, Shannon, I put a little star by your name in the ward directory in case Steve goes crazy being a single parent for a week lol. You're so kind!
